About Dr Freedman , His Background and Practice

Noah D. Freedman, M.D.
Board Certified Psychiatrist Psychotherapy and Medication Management

Noah D. Freedman, M.D.

Are you held back by old patterns that you have struggled with forever? Are you concerned that your current medications and lifestyle choices are digging you into a rut that you may not be able to escape?

I want to help you achieve the goals that are most important to you. We will devote careful attention to examining all the important aspects of your life with compassion, curiosity, and intelligence, to help you begin your journey anew. I will bring to our sessions my years of training and experience along with a well-seasoned perspective. If you have the courage and curiosity let's work together to help you find your path forward.

My Education, Experience, and Practice Emphasis

I graduated in 1990 from Philadelphia's Jefferson Medical College, founded in 1824, now known as Sidney Kimmel Medical College. I went on to complete the residency program in Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

After completing my psychiatric training at Jefferson in 1994, I joined the staff of Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital and Mercy Psychiatric Associates in Darby, PA. Next, from 1998 to 2000, I treated patients in Dr. Sandra Bloom's Sanctuary Program for survivors of trauma.

From 2000 through 2016, I was the owner and medical director of Psych Choices of the Delaware Valley, a group mental health practice I founded with my wife, Emily Kahn-Freedman. Then in 2016, my wife and I moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I joined the staff of Christus St. Vincents Medical Group, working primarily in their outpatient department. In 2019 I left Christus St. Vincent and began my solo outpatient practice, which I incorporated as Centered Psychiatry of New Mexico..

I have studied intensive forms of psychotherapy with such leaders in the field as Jon Frederickson, MSW and Patricia Coughlin, Ph.D. My primary motivation during psychotherapy is always to respect your goals on your journey toward healing, while helping you to become more connected with what you truly need to heal as revealed by your own deeper understanding of your self.

I have studied mind-body medicine along with the use of herbal and nutraceutical interventions with nationally known leaders such as Richard Brown, MD and Patricia Gerbarg, MD. I respectfully offer what I have learned to those who wish to explore complementary treatments.

I have extensive experience in the use of pharmaceutical interventions throughout the field of mental health. My philosophy in the use of medications is to always aim for best results with the lowest effective dosage, a minimum of side effects and an avoidance of addictive medications.

Some people have difficulty tolerating medications. I offer genetic testing to help determine how your body handles psychiatric medications, and which ones may be more effective or more tolerable for you. I have been using such testing since 2011. Genetic testing also may give me insights to other approaches if medications alone do not help you achieve your goals. I am experienced in the use of Genesight™ and Genomind™ genetic testing products.

On a personal note, I would like to add that I have been married to Emily Kahn-Freedman, LMFT for over 36 years. We help each other to keep it real for our family and our patients.
